Annotation"Stepping Out" was a campaign to celebrate purposeful activity in older age. The Stepping Out week was conducted around the June 2000 solstice marked by celebrations and activities around the country. This survey attempts to illustrate the diverse range of activity or inactivity of older people to both challenge traditional stereotypes of dependency and passivity in old age, and to comment on whether richness in leisure time is dependent upon richness in pocket. The questions for the survey were placed on MORI's national general public Omnibus. 658 interviews were carried out with adults aged 55+ across Great Britain: questions were about their social and voluntary activities.
