AnnotationStandard seven of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) states that 'older people who have mental health problems should have access to integrated mental health services provided by the NHS and councils to ensure effective diagnosis, treatment and support for them and their carers'. The support group is the most popular form of intervention for carers of people with dementia, and this article looks at an evaluation of one such support group for spouse carers set up by the Clinical Psychology Service in north Bristol. The evaluation considered whether the group was effective in meeting carers' needs, and if so what carers found helpful, based on feedback from sessions and a postal questionnaire. (RH).
