AnnotationDepression is common in the older general hospital patient, and at any one time 100 patients with depressive symptoms may be occupying beds in the average sized general hospital. However, depression can be often undiagnosed and untreated. The author discusses why it is important to identify depression in this age group, and looks at the co-morbidities associated with the illness. (RH).
