Annotation | There is a dearth of clinical research in the very sub-group of the population that uses the health services most. This is despite almost 80% of older people indicating an intention to take part in a clinical treatment trial if they developed a serious illness. The authors discuss the reasons why older people are under-represented in clinical research, principally because of co-morbidities and concomitant medications with the potential for drug interactions and other adverse events.
