Annotation | Hypnic headache syndrome is a benign, recurrent, late-onset headache disorder that occurs exclusively during sleep. The mean age of presentation is 60 years, and affects men and women. Pathogenesis is poorly understood, and a secondary cause can often be found in this age group. The authors discuss the differential diagnosis and management of hypnic headache in older people. The diagnosis is one of exclusion, since secondary causes of nocturnal headaches include drug withdrawal and sleep apnoea. (RH). |
