AnnotationThis provides best practice guidance on the prevention of infection in care homes. The roles and responsibilities in relation to infection control are clarified following the formation of the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) and the Health Protection Agency. This document updates "Guidelines on the control of infection in nursing and residential homes" (Department of Health, 1996), and will be updated in the light of amendments to the Private and Voluntary Health Care (England) Regulations 2001, which will follow the coming into force of the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Health Care Associated Infections (HCAI) during 2007.
