Annotation | Introducing the thirteen articles on the theme religion, spirituality and ageing, the editor premises that these articles try to answer three questions posed by the philosopher, Immanuel Kant: "What can I know? What ought I to do? What may I hope?" These questions define the domains of theory of knowledge (epistemology), ethics and religion. The first question is responded to in the first seven articles, which report on empirical research on the role of religion and spirituality in the lives of older people. The second question embraces ethics and is the touchstone for "best practice", the focus of the second section. The third question, "What may I hope" is addressed in the next issue of Journal of Gerontological Social Work, vol 45, no 3, 2005. These two issues of the journal have been co-published simultaneously as a monograph by Haworth Social Work Practice Press in 2005. (KJ/RH). |
