Annotation | US federal policy on older workers has shifted from encouragement of early withdrawal from, to continuous participation in, the workforce. In this light, it is instructive to investigate the backgrounds of older people who work at age 70 and over. This article presents the findings of a study using data from the 1993 Asset and Health Dynamics of the Oldest Old Study (AHEAD) that investigated the effects of health, economic conditions (net worth, employer-provided pensions, and supplemental medical assurance coverage), education, and spouse's work status on the probability of men working at age 70+. The study examined the probability of working, and the probabilities of working full-time, part-time, being self-employed, or of being employed by others. (RH). |
