AnnotationThis issue of the Journal of Gerontological Social Work has been simultaneously co-published by Haworth Social Work Practice Press as a monograph, "Group work and aging: issues in practice, research and education", edited by Robert Salmon and Roberta Graziano. The articles describe the complexity, diversity and particular usefulness of social group work practice with older people. Many of the articles present examples of direct practice with specific groups of older clients: lesbians, the homeless, Asian immigrants, substance abusers, those with a mental illness, and those at the end of life. Others concern group work practice with caregivers and care workers. The implicit foundation for all is that social group work practice is a positive way of working with people: a common theme is the principle of mutual aid, akin to self-help. (RH).
