AnnotationIndependence programmes - such as the Home Independence Program (HIP) and the Personal Enablement Program (PEP) - are successful in reducing the demand for home care services in Australia. These have been developed by Silver Chain, Western Australia's largest home care provider. The authors outline the benefits of such programmes which have resulted in better outcomes for clients, and which they suggest should be adopted more universally. This is one of eleven papers from the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) 8th Global Conference in May 2006 in this final issue of Generations Review. (RH).
