AnnotationLearning in later life is recognised as playing an important role in active ageing. However, older people in the UK ere the least likely to participate in lifelong learning. This is one of eleven papers from the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) 8th Global Conference in May 2006 in this final issue of Generations Review. The Conference provided an opportunity for a symposium on Securing learning in later life drawing on practice in several European countries. This paper outlines a research project on participation in lifelong learning at the Senior Studies Institute (SSI) at the University of Strathclyde Centre for Lifelong Learning. It also describes the OWL (Older Workers Learning) pilot project funded by the European Social Fund Equal programme and operating in Glasgow, South Lanarkshire, and Dumfries and Galloway. (RH).
