AnnotationThe contribution made by voluntary organisations to social service provision for older people in Norway is described. This paper presents data on the volume of social services provided by Norwegian voluntary organisations, and discusses the recognition that the central government gives to such organisations n the Norwegian welfare state. The analysis indicates the scope of contributions made by these organisations in caring for older people. Though the size of the contribution made by voluntary organisations has been declining rapidly in recent years, the Norwegian government still recognises their past contributions and the role they can play within the framework of the welfare state's social services for older people.
