Annotation | This is one of a series of reports on managing an ageing workforce in nine different sectors. It provides an overview of how the retail sector (employing a little over 3 million people, 10% of the workforce, in 202,000 firms) is coping with the challenges brought about by an increasingly ageing workforce. The report has been written for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) by the Centre for Research into the Older Workforce (CROW) to help employers make better use of older workers. It also aims to help raise awareness of the new Employment Equality (Age) Regulations coming into force on 1 October 2006, which prohibits age discrimination in work or training against people of any age. This paper is intended for consultation with employers, sector bodies and other interested organisations and individuals: email responses to crow@niace.org.uk; or by post to Age Coordination Research, Centre for Research into the Older Workforce, NIACE, 21 De Montfort Street, Leicester LE1 7GE. This research is one of a number of projects commissioned by the DWP on behalf of the Age Partnership Group (APG) as part of the National Guidance Campaign (NGC). (RH). |
