Annotation | Self care is described as "the care taken by individuals towards their own health and well-being, and in their role as carers includes the care extended to their children, family, friends and others". Self care includes the actions taken to stay fit and maintain good physical and mental health. This compendium describes a range of approaches to self care support across all the settings in the whole system of health and social care. The aim is to increase awareness of the wide scope of self care support; illustrate examples of innovative service and practice developments; identify where self care support might contribute to achieving NHS targets; and encourage wider uptake of self care support models.
