Annotation"MUST" is a five-step screening tool to identify adults who are malnourished, at risk of malnutrition or obese. It also includes management guidelines which can be used to develop a care plan. It is for use in hospitals, community and other care settings and can be used by all care workers. The six page guide contains a flow chart showing the 5 steps to use for screening and management; BMI (body mass index) chart; weight loss tables'; and alternative measurements when BMI cannot be obtained by measuring weight and height. BAPEN has also produced a 32-page explanatory booklet, as a guide to using MUST, as well as other materials to download from the website given or which can be purchased. MUST as a tool is reviewed annually, having been developed in 2003 with support from the British Dietetic Association (BDA), the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and the Registered Nursing Home Association RNHA).
