AnnotationIFF Research Ltd undertook research for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in advance of publication of the Pensions Commission's second report in November 2005 and in advance of a pensions White Paper. This report presents the findings of a research project designed to look at general knowledge and attitudes towards pensions and response to suggestions to change in the pension regime. The research consisted of 12 group discussions with people from different age groups, incomes, pension status and regions. The report explores issues including: people's anticipated methods of funding retirement, their attitudes towards employer provision, and attitudes to risk. Views are examined on suggested options for reform: the diversion of funds from other areas of government expenditure; increases in taxes or National Insurance (NI) contributions; raising the state pension age; compulsory saving for retirement; automatic enrolment in a pensions scheme; and compulsory employer contributions.
