AnnotationA snapshot is presented of Europe's ageing population, based on currently available information and statistics on older people's health. This report highlights the heterogeneous and diverse nature of this population, and notes important health inequalities (e.g.disparities in life expectancy). How we interpret healthy ageing - whether being disability-free or in terms of lifestyle behaviours - is considered. A short concluding chapter focuses on dementia. Throughout the report, "calls for action" on health problems - for example, depression - outline how these might be tackled. (RH).
