AnnotationPatients' surveys should ask about real experiences of medical care. Since 2002, all NHS trusts in England have been required to survey a couple of their patients annually and report the results to the Healthcare Commission. This short article draws attention to other articles in this issue of BMJ that express shades of unease with the patient questionnaire being used to obtain feedback regarding the competence and skills OF general practitioner.
