Annotation | Population characteristics and demographic trends for Serbia are presented. Because of the many changes in recent years, the country is not sufficiently prepared to face the problem of an ageing population. The article outlines the importance of the family in caring for older people; and describes health and social care services provision, the social security system and health care expenditure. Recommendations are made for a national plan in the light of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing 2002. The article lists Government organisations and non-Government organisations (NGOs) working in the field of ageing in Serbia. (RH). |
