AnnotationA previous publication, "The state of social care in England 2004-5" (CSCI, 2005), reported on performance of social care services against the National Minimum Standards for recruitment and vetting of care staff. This bulletin looks at the current performance of adult and children's services, including older people's care homes and domiciliary care agencies. Its key finding is that too many regulated social care services are failing to apply consistently, safe vetting procedures and sound recruitment practices, despite an overall improvement since 2002/03. Nearly half (47%) domiciliary care agencies, and two-fifths of older people's care homes (41%) and younger adults' care homes (39%) did not meet this standard. (KJ/RH).
