AnnotationMore rapid decline is robustly related to reduced survival in Alzheimer's disease (AD). The association of rate of cognitive decline with survival is stronger in Whites than in African Americans. The association of rate of cognitive decline with survival is stronger in those with less education compared to those with more education. These are the main points arising from a study of 432 people with clinically diagnosed AD who were recruited from a memory disorder clinic and day care centres in the Chicago area. They completed a uniform clinical evaluation at baseline, and a battery of nine cognitive tests at 6-month intervals for a mean of about 3 years. (RH).
