AnnotationThis volume comprises a series of articles that describe the complexity, diversity and particular usefulness of social work group practice in the service of older people. Many of the articles present examples of direct practice with specific groups of older clients: lesbians, the homeless, Asian immigrants, substance abusers, those with a mental illness, and those at the end of life. Others concern group work practice with caregivers and care workers. The implicit foundation for all is that social group work practice is a positive way of working with people: a common theme is the principle of mutual aid, akin to self-help. This monograph has been co-published simultaneously as Journal of Gerontological Social Work, vol 44, nos 1/2, 2004. (RH).
