AnnotationThis revised annual series began with 1993 edition. (Previous series began in 1979). The series is largely based on information contained in the Family Resources Survey (with a sample size of about 7000 pensioner units) and Households Below Average Income (and for historical trends, the superseded Family Expenditure Survey). The PI series analyses all of the income sources e.g. benefits, investments and pensions, of all pensioner households - single people over state pension age and couples where the husband is over state pension age. It also produces an average over both: the "all pensioner units" figures. See also: "Client group analysis of the population over state pension age" for a sample analysis receiving key DSS benefits. This publication can also be accessed on the PI series web page with other DWP statistical reports. (www.dwp.gov.uk/asd/pensioners_income.asp) (KJ).
