Annotation | In India, the older segment of the population is growing faster than younger segments of the population and also as a proportion of the total population. The fertility rate is also declining in some states, which is thought will lead to a reduction in the care-providing younger population. With this in mind, the government in India is planning to introduce legislation mandating the care of ageing parents by their children. This article looks at the practicalities of such a policy for India and other developing countries. (RH). |
