Annotation | A distinctive feature of the older population throughout the world is the preponderance of women over men. This paper aims to analyse the gender ratio in population ageing and the implications for people's socio-economic and cultural life in India. It looks at the basic demographic parameters that facilitate the gender imbalance in society, such as the dependency ratio, and presents data from official census data and United Nations (UN) reports on population. The implications of gender imbalance at later ages - including living arrangements, loneliness, and health - are considered. (RH). |
