Annotation | Extra care housing has been used to give older people independence, but it can also dramatically improve the lives of disabled people. This article supports this assertion, by describing an innovative large supported housing scheme in Bradford, which demonstrates the use of extra care housing for severely disabled people under pension age as an alternative to residential care. The author illustrates how the right environment and support reduces levels of dependency and reduces the need for intensive packages of care. (RH). |
