Annotation | Direct payments were first introduced in 1996 in order to allow local authorities to make cash payments in lieu of services to those people eligible for community care provision. In this article, the author reports the findings of research carried out amongst care managers and older people about their attitudes towards direct payments, and comments on what could be done to better connect older people with this new way of paying for services. The research was carried out by the Institute of Health and Social Care at Anglia Polytechnic University (APU) in partnership with Age Concern Cambridgeshire. (RH). |
