AnnotationThree papers in this issue of Aging & Mental Health consider the role of religious belief and activity which appears to increase with age. This editorial outlines their findings in relation to previous studies. Mental health professionals' negative attitudes towards religion have been influenced by Sigmund Freud's early writings. However, if findings such as the three papers are confirmed in future studies, mental health professionals should consider supporting older people's religious and traditional cultural beliefs by way of recovering and maintaining mental health.
