Annotation | The Green paper, "Independence, well-being and choice" set out proposals for the future direction of social care for adults of all age groups in England. While claiming to confirm the Green Paper's vision, the coverage in this White Paper as much relates to health services and patient choice. The White Paper has four main goals: better prevention services with earlier intervention; more choice; tackling inequalities and improving access to community services; and more support for people with long-term needs. The aim is for people to be able take more control of their lives, and at the same time to acknowledge the role of carers. A chapter, "Enabling health, independence and well-being", includes the idea of an NHS "Life Check", better support for mental health, partnership working in local areas; and expanding the evidence base (e.g. through Partnerships for Older People Projects, POPPs). Throughout the report are case studies giving examples of service provision. The report also includes a timetable for action, and an appendix outlining results of a focus group of almost 1,000 people in Birmingham, also responses by more than 36,000 to a questionnaire.
