Annotation | Dementia cafés - which are the subject of two reviews of innovative practice in this issue of Dementia - have become more numerous since they were first launched in the Netherlands; the first one in the UK was at Farnborough, Hampshire, in 2000. The Kingston Dementia Café brings together people with dementia, their carers and concerned professionals in an informal environment where they can socialise, share information and provide support to each other. This review outlines an evaluation carried out by Dorothy Cameron as part of her studies to become a family therapist, to find evidence about the Café's usefulness. The findings are based on the taped transcription of an hour-long group discussion, the main theme of which was the comparison of experience between participants. (RH). |
