Annotation | This series began with the May 1998 bulletin under a slightly different title, with the aim of improving the relevance of DSS data to monitor the Government's welfare reform agenda. It is published twice a year with some delay - May and November. This analysis is based on a 5% sample of all people over state pension age receiving one of the key DSS benefits, e.g. retirement pension, attendance allowance etc. It does not include data on the following benefits: housing and council tax, and widow's benefit. Information on the key characteristics of these claimants is also available, e.g age, sex and by statistical group e.g "sick and/or disabled". As such it will map the changes in composition of people over state pension age in the benefits system. This is a large sample group and so data can be broken down into smaller areas e.g. local authorities. There will eventually be only a delay of four months between data collation and publication. From November 2001 bulletin an adjustment has been made with regard to the datasets for mortality statistics, i.e. everyone shown as a live claim on the underlying individual benefits data is now included within the pensioner client group datasets and statistics produced from them. These statistics ceased publication with the November 2004 bulletin. They are available from the website given for a limited period under "Historic releases". (KJ). |
