Annotation | Most older people live in their own homes, and for many, their social life is focused around food. This project (Project no QLK1-2002-02447, acronym SENIOR FOOD-QOL) is being carried out under the European Commission's 5th Framework Programme for Research, Technology & Demonstration as part of the Quality of Life and Management of Living Resources, Key Action 1, Food, Nutrition and Health. One of the project's innovations is its detailed examination of attitudes and beliefs of older consumers and their food preferences for products such as snacks, ready-made convenience foods, functional foods and delivered meals. Access to food, the social networks to support food procurement, and the wider influences on dietary choices with advancing age across the participating European countries will also be investigated. This report outlines the project's key objectives and work programmes; it also gives details of project partners, who in the UK are based at the Food, Consumer Behaviour and Health Research Centre at the University of Surrey.
