| Annotation | The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) commissioned this research on the role played by financial intermediaries - such as independent financial advisers (IFAs) and advisers employed by banks, building societies and insurance companies - in the provision of advice about saving for retirement. Based on in-depth interviews with a range of financial intermediaries, the research sought to increase understanding about how income-related benefits affect that advice. The report provides an overview of the marketplace for advice on retirement planning and pensions (including recent significant changes and the authorisation and training of advisers). The report looks in detail at the nature of one-to-one advice given by local financial intermediaries, the extent to which they focus on retirement planning and pensions, and how they respond to scenarios involving people on low incomes with low levels of pension provision. Other chapters cover financial intermediaries' advice on State provision for retirement, and workplace-based advice on saving for retirement. (RH). |
