AnnotationThe requirement of Standard One of the National Service Framework for Mental Health (NSF) is "to promote mental health for all, working with individuals, organisations and communities". This document supports that requirement, and provides good practice to support the development and delivery of action to improve mental health and well-being with regard to areas including equality and inclusion; violence and abuse; communities; and later life. On the last mentioned, improved life satisfaction and increased opportunities for participation for older people are identified. It sets a framework for action to: raise public awareness of how to look after our own mental health and that of other people; and involve all communities and organisations, across all sectors, in taking a positive steps to promote and protect mental well-being. The report offers examples of local strategies illustrating good practice based on criteria including local needs assessment, and links to wider initiatives to improve health and social outcomes.
