Annotation | Nowadays, encouraging older people to reminisce is seen as a normal activity, and very much part of care work. Thirty years ago, this was not the case. The author of this article reviews Faith Gibson's "The past in the present: using reminiscence in health and social care" (Baltimore, MD: Health Professions Press. 2004), and sets it in the context of the work of others who have written on types and functions of reminiscence. While the value of the technique may have been questioned in the past, more recent projects and advances in research suggest something more worthwhile. (RH). |
