AnnotationThe National Care Association (NCA) now represents all care providers (including nursing homes and domiciliary care providers), and this is reflected in its response to the Green Paper "Independence, well-being and choice". The first of two immediate areas of concern is that choice should mean choice of all the options, not just the choice of the Department of Health's (DH) preferred choices. The other is that more than 60% of social care provision by the private sector in England, but is hardly mentioned. NCA response also covers: setting clear outcomes; direct payments; the role of the wider community (i.e. carers and volunteers); funding and fair access to care; local government's role; strategic commissioning; service improvement and delivery; and regulation and performance assessment.
