AnnotationThe pilot implementation of four different approaches to providing information and advice in the workplace regarding pensions and income in retirement is reviewed. The target population was employers with five or more employees that have a designated stakeholder pension scheme but contribute nothing or less than 3% of their employees' pensions, and have low levels of scheme membership. The four approaches were: distribution of literature, including a specially commissioned Pensions Information Pack (PIP) for employees; distribution of literature and presentation focusing primarily on the employers' stakeholder pension scheme (SHP); distribution of literature, a presentation and one-to-one pensions information meetings with the SHP provider; and as the previous option, but implemented by an independent financial adviser (IFA). The evaluation explored: the effects of the pilot options on employees' pension knowledge, attitudes, awareness and savings behaviour; and the roles, experiences and views of participating employers, employees, pension providers and IFAs.
