Annotation | In May 2005, 489 people over the age of 50 who have experience of mental distress responded to a Mind survey regarding their experiences. Their view are represented in this report. It concludes that people who experience mental distress should have access to full support and treatment, whatever their age. For too long, the mental health needs of people in later life have been misrepresented and neglected, leading to worrying deficiencies in treatment. This report calls on the government and the Welsh Assembly Government to combat discrimination and stigma around mental health in later life and to promote positive well-being as people get older. It also covers issues of training, treatment safeguards, planning for later life, and service user involvement. (RH). |
