Annotation | This research is one of a number of projects commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on behalf of the Age Partnership Group (APG) as part of the National Guidance Campaign (NGC). The objective of the study has been to collect information on the most common employment-related reasons for legal action on the grounds of age discrimination. The search for cases has focused on countries with explicit age discrimination legislation in place, but it has also included countries where age discriminatory practice is covered by wider legislation. This executive summary indicates steps towards implementing the European Employment Directive in the UK and other EU member countries, and outlines a few cases of age discrimination in employment in the US, Australia, Canada and Ireland.
