AnnotationIn April 2004, the authors received the annual Award for Excellence and Innovation in Dementia Care, sponsored by the Queen's Nursing Institute and the Alzheimer's Society. This was given for their work in connection with the provision of spiritual and religious care to hospital day patients with dementia, through what is known as "The Candelight Group". This booklet aims to describe the history of The Candlelight Group and provide suggested resources to help practice in care homes e.g. appropriate hymns and Bible readings. The Candelight Group established four principles on which they developed their practice of spiritual and religious care for those with dementia - simplicity, non-eucharistic, duration and familiarity. It is hoped that these can underpin and be further developed by others appropriate for use in their particular care setting. (KJ).
