AnnotationOne in four people aged 65+ needs podiatric care but is not receiving it. This report by experts from the University of Plymouth and University College Northampton looks at the scale of unmet need in the older population, and the likely long-term outcomes of not providing low-level podiatric services. It presents the views of older people about foot care and the withdrawal of services. Based on different costing options, it suggests some innovative and cost-effective alternatives to traditional service delivery that could offer a way forward. The authors outline the content of the website (http://www.research.plymouth.ac.uk/podiatry) they have developed to enable debate to continue. A summary of this report is also available from the website of Help the Aged. (KJ/RH).
