Annotation | Preliminary research describes the psychometric properties of a newly-developed Everyday Spatial Questionnaire for Dementia - patient version (ESQD-P) for a Chinese population. The ESQD-P is a measure for the phenomenon of "getting lost behaviour" (GLB) reported by early Alzheimer's disease sufferers, based on the concept of spatial problem solving. The ESQD-P was validated with 116 outpatients in the memory disorder clinic of a veterans' general hospital in Taiwan. Other assessments used were the Cognitive Abilities Screen Instrument (for global cognition), the Clinical Dementia Rating Scale (stages of dementia), and the Geriatric Depression Scale- short Form (GDS). Findings indicate the Chinese ESQD-P to be a reliable instrument for measuring GLB, which in itself may be described in part by declining executive functions. Deleting the coping strategies sub-scales may improve psychometric properties of the ESQD-P. ((RH). |
