AnnotationThis full report updates and extends the information in Dinah Mathew's 2000 survey, "Who cares?" It does, however, present for the first time, information on Registered Manager activity. Other new areas explored relate to regulation, the motivations of home care workers for choosing to work in the sector, and issues they consider important in employment. Covered in greater depth than in 2000 are: government policy and the home care market context; home care provision in England; independent sector home care providers; the home care workers; recruitment and turnover; and qualifications and training. The authors note that direct comparisons with the 2000 survey need to be viewed with caution, because of differences in the sample of respondents. (KJ/RH).
