Annotation | The Carers (Equal Opportunities) Act 2004 places a duty on social services to inform carers of their right to an assessment, and to ensure a carer's wish for employment, learning or training opportunities and leisure are considered as part of the assessment. However, there are important links and duties on the National Health Service (NHS), which in combination with existing guidance and policy mean that the NHS has an important role in implementing the Act. This briefing sets out the duties of health bodies in relation to the Act, reviews where the Act could impact on their policies and procedures, and draws attention to other information sources.
