AnnotationA new model for employment is needed which encourages and supports people from the time when they enter the workplace. This study highlights the issues faced by people at different stages in their working lives, for each decade from teens to sixties. Each of these age groups exhibit distinctive features, and the findings suggest that people of all ages are motivated to change and develop, but are being held back by an outdated idea of careers. The study finds that, on the whole, people get happier in their work as they get older, while younger age groups experience as much ageism in employment as do older workers. The report confirms the discrimination faced by women in the workplace, and they never catch up with their male counterparts. There is thus a clear demand for some more sophisticated management throughout people's working lives. (RH).
