Annotation | Firstly, this paper describes the background for family care in dementia, also some common and important issues of care for dementia sufferers' family caregivers, notably cultural factors in Chinese and Hong Kong society. The author introduces one approach of family intervention, the mutual support group. In a recent clinical trial, he has found evidence of its effectiveness in a sample of Chinese family caregivers. Health professionals are recommended to consider these issues regarding caregiving and the use of effective, innovative intervention approaches when providing family care to dementia sufferers.
