AnnotationA clinical pharmacologist in New South Wales is motivated by concerns around the devastating effects of some medications that are traditionally used to modify behaviour in people with dementia. This manual draws information from the literature, working with carers, and from the author's personal experience in caring for and enjoying the company of people with dementia. He makes practical suggestions for dealing with some of the problems commonly faced by people with dementia, such as eating, toileting, wandering, sleep disturbance, agitation, aggression, and inappropriate sexual activity. He also provides techniques for stimulating memory, ideas for calming the environment, improving communication, and effective therapies for reducing stress levels. Another feature of the book is Wayne Madden's cartoon illustrations. (RH).
