AnnotationFollowing the introduction of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, the Scottish Executive commissioned this literature review to update previous reviews relating to mental health legislation. It considers trends in the use of previous legislation, the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1984. Other chapters look at subjects dealt with by the new legislation: mental health tribunals; impairment and capacity; compulsory treatment in the community; mentally disordered offenders (MDOs); advocacy; advance directives and statements; least restrictive alternative (LRA, and generally treatment not in an institutional setting); and minority groups. The review also considers implications of the Act for the work force, and research on aspects of the Act. (RH).
