AnnotationThe politics of pension reform is as important as the policy itself. The authors argue that the government must get the policies right if it is to establish a pensions entitlement which will endure for future generations. They argue that a revitalised basic state pension - without recourse to means-testing - should provide the foundation for reform. They set out principles for state support of a second pension; show the options for funding pension reform; and clarify the confusion on the debate about compulsion. Key "stakeholders" respond to their proposals: Digby Jones (CBI); Brendan Barber (TUC); Ian Naismith (Scottish Widows); Alison O'Connell and Chris Curry (Pensions Policy Institute - PPI); and Christine Farnish (National Association of Pension Funds - NAPF).
