Annotation | Dignity and Older Europeans is a 3-year project (2001-2004), which was funded by the European Commission under the Fifth Framework (Quality of Life) Programme and co-ordinated by the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Cardiff University, in Wales. This study used qualitative methods to explore the concept of dignity from the older person's perspective. Focus group participation was based on a diverse cross-section of older people in Bristol. Themes that emerged from the data are presented and compared to a philosophical account of dignity. Policy implications in relation to health and social welfare of older people are proposed, as well as guidance on educational development for healthcare professionals. (RH). |
